چکیده

Practical STAP implementations rely on reduced-dimension processing, using techniques such as principle components or partially adaptive filters. The dimension reduction not only decreases the computational load, it also reduces the sample support required for estimating the interference statistics. This results because the clutter covariance is implicitly assumed to possess a certain (nonparametric) structure. In this paper, we demonstrate how imposing a parametric structure on the clutter and jamming can lead to a further reduction in both computation and secondary sample support. Our approach, referred to as Space-Time AutoRegressive (STAR) filtering, is applied in two steps: First, a structured subspace orthogonal to that in which the clutter and interference reside is found; Second, a detector matched to this subspace is used to determine whether or not a target is present. Using a realistic simulated data set for circular array STAP, we demonstrate that this approach achieves significantly lower SINR loss with a computational load that is less than that required by the reduced-dimension PRI-staggered STAP method. The STAR algorithm also yields excellent performance with very small secondary sample support, a feature that is particularly attractive for circular array STAP where the clutter statistics are range dependent.

Adaptation of Rejection Algorithms for a Radar Clutter

In this paper, the algorithms for adaptive rejection of a radar clutter are synthesized for the case of a priori unknown spectral-correlation characteristics at wobbulation of a repetition period of the radar signal. The synthesis of algorithms for the non-recursive adaptive rejection filter (ARF) of a given order is reduced to determination of the vector of weighting coefficients, which realiz...

Parametric Filters for Non-stationary Interference Mitigation in Airborne Radars

Multichannel parametric filters are currently being studied as a means of reducing the dimension of STAP algorithms for interference rejection in airborne pulsed-Doppler radar systems. These filters are attractive to use due to the low computational cost associated with their implementation as well as their near optimal performance with a small amount of training data for a stationary environme...

Evaluation of a Monostatic Stap Radar Range-compensation Method Applied to Selected Bistatic Configurations

The detection of slow moving targets by a moving bistatic pulsed Doppler radar system is addressed. Optimum clutter rejection is achieved using space-time adaptive processing (STAP). This requires estimating the clutter-plus-noise covariance matrix using a sequence of snapshots at successive ranges. For most monostatic and for all bistatic radar configurations, these snapshots are rangedependan...

Parametric Rao Test for Multichannel Adaptive Generalized Detector

The parametric Rao test for multichannel signal detection by the adaptive generalized detector (GD) constructed based on the generalized approach to signal processing in noise is derived by modeling the disturbance signal as a multichannel autoregressive process. The parametric Rao test takes a form identical to that of parametric GD for space-time adaptive processing in airborne surveillance r...

Clutter mitigation techniques for space-based radar

The mission of a ground moving target indication (GMTI) radar, as its name implies, is to detect and classify ground-based vehicles, even ones with very low velocities. This type of radar can provide a wide area of coverage and frequent updates of a specific area of interest if the radar is placed on a satellite with a low earth orbit. However, because of the large footprint of the radar on the...
